During the summer of 2000, I am to conduct research to prepare myself for the upcoming school year as a Sculpture Major. My instructor Dwayne Hughes outlined a summer study, and sent us to take responsibility to do it on our own. Below are his instructions as written on our summer packet: Research and prepare yourself to discuss and understand the work of the artists listed below (including their background, historical significance, and movement that they are associated with). Also fill one full 9"x11" hardbound sketchbook with ideas for sculptures or ceramics for the 2000-2001 schoolyear. And lastly, visit at least two art centers during the summer, and make sketches of the works that inspire you. I am to conduct research on the following artists (come back to see my progress through the summer): H.C. Westerman, Tom Otterness, David Smith, Anish Kapoor, Tony Cragg, Pete Voulkus, Richard Notkin, Clayton Bailey, Claes Oldenburg, Alice Aycock, Lee Bontique, Louise Nevelson, Richard Deacon, Marcel Duchamp, Alberto Giacometti, Alexander Calder, Henry Moore, Donald Judd, Louise Bourgeois, Anthony Caro, Eva Hesse, Christo, Duane Hanson, Judy Chicago, Martin Puryear, and Richard Serra. |
